Where we’ve been Pilgrimages around the world

Since 2013, Aglow has led pilgrims to shrines across Europe, the Holy Land and Mexico, and young people to World Youth Day in Krakow and Lisbon. Today we’ve gone back to the heart of Aglow: Medjugorje.

Today we focus only on Medjugorje, so we’re not currently taking bookings or group enquiries for these destinations. See our Medjugorje pilgrimages →

The Holy Land

Visit Israel and let the Bible come alive! Walk on holy ground, tracing the footsteps of Jesus Christ through Bethlehem, Nazareth, Galilee, Capernaum, the River Jordan and Jerusalem. You’ll never read scripture the same way again.

The Holy Land is a destination we felt a special and personal calling from the Lord to visit. We work with Christian family-run companies who serve pilgrims from around the world, and it has been our privilege to organise pilgrimages for individuals, parish groups and priests from around the UK.

We hope to return to the Holy Land when it is stable enough to do so.

Fatima

The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared six times to three shepherd children near Fatima, Portugal, between 13 May and 13 October 1917, with a message for every man, woman and child. The visitations culminated in the public Miracle of the Sun.

Having led pilgrimages to other destinations, we were approached by several priests to organise their parish pilgrimages to Fatima. We worked closely with small family-run businesses and local people to create an authentic and personal pilgrimage experience.

Lourdes

In 1858 Bernadette Soubirous, a 14-year-old miller’s daughter, received 18 visions of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who told her, “I am the Immaculate Conception.” Millions of pilgrims visit Lourdes each year, many to help the sick or to receive healing from the spring waters.

We worked closely with a select group of hotels we had stayed in personally, and led parish pilgrimages for individuals, groups and entire dioceses.

Santiago de Compostela

The landmark stop on the Camino de Santiago, the city of St James has been one of Christianity’s great pilgrimages since the Middle Ages, alongside Rome and Jerusalem.

One summer shortly after finishing university, Jonathan walked the Camino from Pamplona to Santiago de Compostela on a journey of discernment. Years later, a presentation to a small parish in Wiltshire inspired their own pilgrimage there, and Santiago became one of our destinations.

Krakow

The cobbled streets and beautiful sanctuaries of Krakow, the city of Saint John Paul II and the Divine Mercy, bring pilgrims into a deeper relationship with Christ through the saints of His Church.

Our journey to Krakow began in 2015, preparing for World Youth Day with Pope Francis. Aglow was the chosen tour operator for several UK dioceses, including Leeds, Lancaster and Salford, leading more than 350 young people to Poland.

World Youth Day, Lisbon

World Youth Day brings young Catholics from every nation together with the Pope. In 2023 more than a million pilgrims gathered in Lisbon.

We took seven dioceses from around the UK, close to 300 pilgrims, to World Youth Day in Lisbon.

Garabandal

The small village of San Sebastián de Garabandal, in the mountains of northern Spain, was made famous by the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary between 1961 and 1965, appearing to four young girls in nearly 3,000 apparitions.

We led our first Aglow pilgrimage to Garabandal in the spring of 2019, exploring the mystery of Garabandal deep in the mountains of Cantabria.

Guadalupe

In 1531 the Blessed Mother appeared in Mexico to Juan Diego, a 57-year-old peasant. The Church celebrates the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe every year on 12 December.

“This was a trip of a lifetime for me and my husband Tony. We prayed, laughed and cried and sang our hearts out.” Cath Pearson
