Day by Day Itinerary
10 October - Arrival
Arrival at Rome Fiumicino Airport. An escort will greet you for the transfer to your hotel. Check in and settle into your room before dinner and overnight at the hotel.
11 October: Vatican and Saint Peters (transfer by public bus)
After breakfast at your hotel this morning, join with your local guide with a visit to the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel - world famous for Michelangelo’s ceiling paintings and The Last Judgement. Continue from here with a visit through the monumental St. Peter’s Square including the Basilica. Cross the Tiber on your own and visit the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, where Roman Legions marched in triumph (guided tour not included). Enjoy free time before dinner and overnight.
12 October: Tour of the Catacomb and the Catholic Basilicas
Enjoy breakfast this morning at the hotel before your transfer by bus to the via Appia where you will visit the Catacomb San Callisto. This was the official cemetery of the Church of Rome in the 3rd century AD. Around half a million Christians were buried here, among them many martyrs and 16 popes. They are named after the deacon St. Callixtus who, at the beginning of the 3 rd century AD, was assigned by Pope Zephyrinus to the administration of the cemetery. From here continue to visit St. Paul Outside the Walls, the Basilica of St. John the Lateran and the Basilica of St. Mary Major. Return to the hotel later this afternoon for dinner and overnight.
13 October: St. Peters Square Canonisation Ceremony of Blessed Cardinal Newman
This morning after breakfast at the hotel, you will take public transport to St Peter’s square for the canonisation ceremony. We are still waiting for the instructions for the admission to the ceremony. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure before returning to the hotel on your own for dinner and overnight.
14 October: Departure
Enjoy a lazy breakfast at your hotel this morning before the transfer to the airport for return flight home. Times will be confirmed by your local guide.
